麥卡利斯特官邸是一個提供了奇特、精緻生活方式的目的地，在這裡客人們可以擁有一個拜訪真正熱情好客家庭的體驗。

對有著100多年歷史的古老官邸做了一系列修繕和調整後，麥卡利斯特官邸由6個部分組成：5個餐飲服務設施和酒店客房。每一個空間都是完整體驗的一部分，同時又根據典型官邸的功能，被賦予了截然不同的屬性，如餐廳，雪茄吧，酒吧，客廳，草坪和8個客房。

麥卡利斯特官邸的名字來源於檳城英國總督諾曼•麥卡利斯特上校，一系列與這段歷史相關的藝術品被特意安放在官邸的各個地方。

與傳統保守的官邸不同，這個文物保護建築被小心的修繕，主要的特徵都被保留了下來，並被賦予了現代的氣息，在緬懷過去和著眼未來之間找到絕佳的平衡點。

通過奇特現代的手法對過去的提煉，我們不僅融合了原有的歷史建築元素，也融入了諾曼•麥卡利斯特的傳奇史話。在某種程度上，歷史本身被“重新利用”了。

原有殖民地官邸的主體結構被要求保留下來。比如：保留和加強原有的柱子，樓梯，拱券；除去抹灰，露出原本的磚牆和簷口；修復門窗並加強隔音效果以滿足現代酒店的要求。

整體的設計體驗從到達的一刻就開始了——按照特定順序為客人安排了引人入勝的體驗。在大路上就可以看到懸浮與綠籬之上的酒店標識和古舊的鐵藝大門，優雅的官邸就在遠處。到達下客區，主入口在綠松石般的扇形雨棚下麵，通過被修復的華麗木質對開大門可以到達接待台。接待前臺連接3個餐飲服務區（餐廳，雪茄吧和酒吧）和樓上的8間客房。起居室在建築的西南面有著獨立的入口，通過小路可以連接草坪上的泳池和泳池吧。

室外泳池也經過了精心設計，除了常規的泳池，還在齊腰深的水中設置了座椅區。泳池的水吧有兩組沉在水下的白色編織沙發。一座白色的加農炮和一些炮彈散落在泳池旁邊，使人們聯想到諾曼•麥卡利斯特執政期間的軼聞——他為了鼓勵當地的居民開墾濱海的荒林，把金幣作當作炮彈射入森林。

8間特別訂制的客房都各不相同，面積在45平米到60平米之間，還有3.5米高的天花和暴露的實木屋架。傢俱和藝術品都是根據房間的大小、佈局和燈光特別挑選的。

Macalister Mansion is conceptualized as a quirky and sophisticated lifestyle destination where guests are treated to experiences similar to those found in the hospitality of an actual home.

Housed in a 100-year-old historic mansion that has been conserved and adapted, Macalister Mansion consists of 6 entities: 5 F&Bs and a hotel. Each entity can be enjoyed as part of the overall experience but are branded as distinct spaces that are typically found in a mansion - Dining room, Den, The Cellar, Living room, Lawn and Eight rooms.

The name Macalister Mansion honours Penang's British Governor Colonel Norman Macalister and there are numerous references to this historic figure captured in specially commissioned installation-art pieces throughout the grounds.

Set against the backdrop of a conserved mansion, the heritage spaces have been carefully adapted and key features conserved and infused with contemporary design, striking a good balance between the nostalgia of the past and a vision of relevance for the future.

Drawing from the past in a quirky, contemporary way, we integrated not only the existing historic architectural cues, but also the tale of Norman Macalister as an underlying quasi-historical narrative... in a way, history itself has been "adaptively reused".

Major infrastructural work was required to restore a colonial mansion, e.g. retaining and reinforcing original columns, staircases, archways; removing plaster to reveal original brick walls and wall cornices; repairing and soundproofing original windows for contemporary hospitality use.

The entire design exercise began with the design of the arrival experience - prioritizing the guest experience and a dramatic sense of arrival. When viewed along the main road, the MM logo floats above the green hedge and original wrought iron gate, with the elegant mansion in the distance. Arrival at the reception area is under a turquoise scalloped canopy and through a pair of restored ornate wooden double-leaf doorway. The reception is central to the rest of the Macalister mansion experience and is linked to 3 F&Bs (the Dining Room, the Den & The Cellar) and to the 8 hotel rooms above. The Living Room has its own distinct entry on the southwest side of the building with a pathway connecting it to the Lawn’s pool and pool bar.

An interesting pool feature is an area sectioned for lounging in waist-deep water, while the other area is provided for lap swimming. The pool bar has 2 sunken white mesh sofas. A white canon and series of cannonballs by the pool is a tongue-in-cheek reference to a legend surrounding Norman Macalister’s days of governing – apparently he incentivised local islanders to aid the clearing of forested coastal land by shooting gold coins into the forest.

All Eight guestrooms are bespoke, unique and generously sized (45–60 sqm), featuring 3.5m-high ceilings and solid timber flooring. Furniture and artwork have been selected based on the room proportions, layout and lighting.

走入大廳，瞬間被兩側陣列的古門氣勢震攝，這是位於台南的晶英酒店。將臺式屋瓦以堆疊方式巧妙鑲嵌於柱，鐵板及木頭混合編織的傳統六角格古門及如同古時秀才挑燈夜讀的金色燭型吊燈，舖出的中軸大道則象徵書中自有黃金屋的仕途。書苑是以視覺強調文人讀書蘊釀文化薈萃之所在，以字會友，以書傳家，作為本案的點題空間，更作為書香門第的體現。大廳西側的餐廳作為建築與食物的連結則是懷舊不舊的設計串場。本案將文人審美觀與傳統建築結合，工與藝的裝飾表現，老元素新詮釋、老工藝新生命，重質地多過顏色，重比例多過裝飾，大在氣韻，重於文化，考究而素雅。以視覺紀錄品味的記憶，以味覺品嘗書香的回甘，所賦予的是一個具有靈魂及思想意境的空間。

As guests approaching the Silks Place Hotel, stunning by the gigantic antique doors and the flickering lighting in the lobby. Solid wood panels aligned in the central lobby area, grants the space solidarity and strength. Like the ancient Chinese saying “golden palace found in the knowledge of books”, ancient scholars pursuing career advancement in the political realm.

Black granite floor shimmer under the light. A mimic of the old terrazzo commonly found in civil houses in Taiwan in the old time. The orange colour gives a subtle connection to the terracotta tiles applied in the space. The pattern of panels was derived from the traditional patterns of the window elements used to be seen in ancient grand house. Generous greeting with tea service to the guests arriving, a traditional manner from the southern region.

The study room at the end of the lobby, is the soul of this design. With no commercial activity preset, the display is primarily focused on books and antiques. The bookshelves made in antique style, almost like a museum showcasing the collection. Scholars gathering here, discussing and debating, working on poetry and calligraphy. This space transcends beyond time, the present and the past, co-existing with one another, in harmony.

Tainan’s urban development was strongly influenced by China and colonial period. Steak house of Robbins, a western restaurant developed from the idea of” mix and match”. The interior design blends with a local landmark monument as the materials and architecture elements of red bricks and arch. East meets West, with fusion of the classic and modern sensibilities.

The hotel encompasses 259 guest rooms and an 8-meter high ceiling multi-functional banquet hall. As the concept of “ Joy Luck Club”, with thousand of multi-color led clouds, capable of wedding banquets for a hundred tables with Taiwanese style wedding ceremony to satisfy the demand of the local crowd. Delivering exquisite gourmet food and visually stunning dining experience.

The guestroom design is developed from old time Taiwanese family house, reflected in both the materials and the room setting. Accents of the terracotta found among the humble house of white wall with gray cement, a feature design of the pedant light, a symbolic presentation of the ancient Chinese calligraphy evident in all guestrooms.

This project aims to thoughtfully units traditional Chinese architecture and the aesthetics of ancient scholars. Showcasing decorative elements of ancient Chinese Arts and Crafts. A fresh reinterpretation of the old and presenting with a modern touch. It is not about the house rules, but more about its soul.
